Every academic situation is different - so are our tutoring plans

What remains the same is our intake process and core values

Every intake process starts with you filling out this brief form, then a LFL representative will reach out to you to discuss you and your child's needs, rates, schedule, and how soon we can get started.

Our values: to create a warm, responsive, unique learning environment that empowers each student to meet their potential.

ACT/SAT

For our oldest test prep students, studying for the ACT/SAT is a great way to prepare not just for the test, but for the responsibilities of college.

We start all of our tutoring journeys with a mock test - to get a baseline score for the student. From the baseline, we recommend a number of sessions we'll want to work together, and we source materials to make sure your child has best-fit materials.

Next, the lessons begin! Depending on timing and availability, we typically recommend students have one 90-minute session a week. We come to your door (or can meet online if you prefer), provide your student lessons full of strategies and support, and leave the student with a clear assignment on what to complete next week.

In addition to weekly lessons, taking mock tests is a key part of improving test scores. We recommend students take a practice test roughly every 3 to 4 weeks, so they gain experience tackling the whole test at once.

We encourage our high school students to communicate with our tutors directly anytime - updating them on schedule changes, or questions about homework, etc. We believe flexibility is invaluable to busy high schoolers.

ISEE/SSAT

With these notoriously difficult tests, preparation goes a long way.

We start all of our tutoring journeys with a mock test - to get a baseline score for the student. From the baseline, we recommend a number of sessions we'll want to work together, and we source materials to make sure your child has best-fit materials.

Next, the lessons begin! Depending on timing and availability, we typically recommend students have 1 or 2 60-minute lessons a week. We come to your door (or can meet online if you prefer), provide your student lessons full of strategies and support, and leave the student with a clear assignment on what to complete next week.

Because these tests are so vocab heavy, we also stress daily vocabulary practice and independent reading outside of our sessions and typical homework assignments.

In addition to weekly lessons, taking mock tests is a key part of improving test scores. We recommend students take a practice test roughly every 3 to 4 weeks, so they gain experience tackling the whole test at once.

College Applications

We are experts at helping your child develop the essay that only your child could write. From brainstorming to final revisions, we help your child put forth a compelling and authentic side of herself to admissions.

Beyond their general application essay, we push students to write well-researched "why this school" essays and beyond, by encouraging genuine research into potential programs and professors at these institutions.

Beyond just essay help, we know that college applications are a test of organization as much as anything else. We help students stay organized and never miss a deadline with shared spreadsheet-deadline trackers.

General Homework Support

Whether a student is struggling or wants more enrichment in a particular topic, Los Feliz Learning has you covered.

While we do recommend meeting once a week to stay on top of new topics and upcoming quizzes and tests, we are also available for flexible, last-minute scheduling when a new assignment threatens to overwhelm your student. (Or you.) ((Or both.))

Essay Support

Los Feliz Learning is here to help students of any age fall in love with writing (or at least not dread it quite as much).

We help younger students put words on  the page and grow familiar with basic essay structure. We help older students master evidenced-based arguments in history and literature assignments.

We meet on an assignment-by-assignment basis to help your student from brainstorming to final edits.
